George Piemonte's Bio

George Piemonte received his B.S. degree in psychology from the University of Florida in 1982 and his law degree from Nova University in 1987. He is licensed to practice law in the states of North Carolina and Georgia. He was one of the first lawyers in North Carolina to become a North Carolina State Bar Certified Specialist in Social Security Disability Law. George is currently the immediate Past President of the National Organization of Social Security Representatives (NOSSCR), a past Chairman of the Disability Advocacy Section of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice and has served the maximum number of terms as a member of the Social Security Disability Specialization Committee of the North Carolina State Bar. George has practiced law since 1987 and has focused his practice on Social Security Disability and Veterans Disability since 1995. What Is Severe Impairment?

  What is a severe impairment?   During the course of your Social Security disability application process, you may see and/or hear the term “severe impairment.” Social Security defines a severe impairment as one which significantly limits your physical or mental ability to do basic work activities. If you are applying for Social security disability, it is likely you have multiple conditions or impairments which will have to be considered and found severe or non-severe. It is possible for an impairment to cause some limitations even if it is found non-severe.    For example, you may be applying for Social Security disability primarily on the basis of a back impairment but also have high blood pressure and migraine headaches.
