Laura Beth Waller's Bio

 

Laura Beth Waller is an associate attorney focused on district court work at Martin, Jones, and Piemonte. She started practicing Social Security law about eight years ago while living in the Pacific Northwest. She understands the impact of disability on an individual and their family and applies that perspective to her work. 

She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with minors in Spanish and International Affairs. She graduated magna cum laude from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2010. She went on to earn her LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Washington in Seattle. Laura Beth is admitted to practice in North Carolina and Washington. She is a member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, where she serves as co-chair of the Education Committee for the Disability Advocacy Section. She is also a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives and is active in the NextGen Committee.   

  She lives in Zebulon with her husband, two children, and a dog named Crash. She is involved in the PTA at her children’s school, and she serves on the Executive Committee for the Miss Zebulon Scholarship Pageant. In her free time, Laura Beth enjoys reading, politics, watching baseball, and spending time at Lake Gaston with her family.

     When Social Security examines a case to determine whether a person is disabled, they rely to a large degree on medical records provided by your mental and physical health care providers.  One of the most important things a person can do when meeting with a doctor is to communicate clearly about any problems they are having and telling them about all of their relevant medical conditions. For example, frequently a claimant at a SS hearing will testify that the medication they take causes side effects, but if their treatment notes don’t reflect that they told the doctor they had side effects, the SS medical record doesn’t support the testimony and it’s usually disregarded. Sherri Majewski has been employed with Martin, Jones, & Piemonte since November 2019 as an administrative assistant and co-counsel liaison.  Sherri’s responsibilities include handling court filings as well as being the main point of contact between Martin, Jones, & Piemonte and referring representatives.  Sherri resides in Zebulon, North Carolina with her husband, their 3-year-old son, 4 cats, and 1 dog. Disability Myths #3

  Myth 3: People usually wait 2 years or more to win their disability cases.   Sadly, this one is true. I cannot imagine surviving 2 years or more without an income and without the ability to work. But there are ways to get Social Security’s attention earlier in your case. First, be sure to ask your doctors to respond as quickly as possible when they get a request for your records from Social Security. And second, ask your doctors to write a letter to Social Security explaining what you can and cannot do and what are the reasons for their opinion of your limitations.
